My goal was to get the same group of people from the earlier Flight Crew and discuss what has been happening and in general just check up on them. We hit some major problems with organizing this. The program was very disorganized. There was no master list made of Flight Crews which seriously hindered our ability to find the previous members of our flight crew since it had been such a loong time since. We managed to track down a few of our members via our owm memories and other students' memories. Th initial idea was to have some sort of party but it turned to into an informal meet and great with the select few that were interested in the flight and those who remmbered that they were even in one. It would have helped to have formal meetings with all the Flight Crews throughout the semester. We received very positive feedback from the few students who were actually interested in this. They had the same reactions I did as a freshman in high school. They even had some of the same reactions as teachers did with their first year at the school. Everyone pretty much thought that the school does a good job at involving students and providing opportunities for them to get involved in the aerospace business. There were some negative comments, mmost of which you can guess for yourself. These students, however, seem to be more driven than our class which is probably due to the lack of competition and the entrance of many unqualified members.
What could I do better next time?
Next time I would really like to have the information I need in orer to conduct such an event. It was really disconcerting to not be able to find the participants from ANYONE. Siva was my help partner during this whole Flight Crew investigation and is a formal leader on the Pink Flight Crew.
Pros: I was able to get a view into the world of freshman at out school. I also got to get to know some of the freshman better. It always good to make new friends, even if they are younger. It also heolps the freshman become more aquainted with older people (if they havent already).
Cons: This was the last stand for the Flight Crew Program. If it is run next year it should be conducted more professionally and documented better. It is a program that has potential but it requires the participation of both freshman and upper classmen.
What went well?
The conversations we had between the few Freshamn that we were able to contact. It was reassuring to see some brand new insights on how the school is doing overall.
What could be improved?
The organization of the program. It was assigned to be set up by a junior that already had enough on her plate. Next time I think it should be conducted by a teacher and then have students run each individual crew.
